US back to the table with economic strategy for Indo-Pacific

WASHINGTON - The United States on Monday (July 30) sent a strong signal of more robust economic engagement in the Indo-Pacific, fleshing out a previously announced strategy for a region described by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as stretching from India's west coast to America's west coast - with Asean "literally in the middle".

The US pledged US$113 million (S$154 million) to support initiatives in the digital economy, energy and infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific region, describing these as "foundational areas of the future".
