VIRGINIA (REUTERS) - Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called on the country to support its law enforcement officers on Monday (July 11), but he also called for reforms in the criminal justice system.

He told supporters at a rally in Virginia that he is both the "law and order candidate", and "also the candidate of compassion".

Mr Trump's comments come on the heels of the deadly police shootings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana, and the killings of five Dallas police officers by a sniper.

Mr Trump is expected to name his vice-presidential candidate later this week.
