WASHINGTON - Ms Gina Haspel, 61, acting director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and nominated to head it, is an ace intelligence officer.

She spent 33 years at the agency - much of that time undercover - and received wide praise from professionals, including several former intelligence chiefs.
