WASHINGTON - North Korea's warning that the United States should "undertake careful deliberations about the fate of the planned North Korea-US summit" has come as a necessary wake-up call ahead of the June 12 Donald Trump-Kim Jong Un summit in Singapore, analysts say.

That the warning - issued through its state news agency, plus a pullout from senior level talks with South Korea - came because of scheduled US-South Korea joint military exercises came as a surprise, and according to all accounts blindsided both the State Department and the White House.
