WASHINGTON - With new legislation set to be introduced this week in the Senate that will mandate targeted sanctions on Chinese officials interfering in the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, the issue of Tibet is acquiring more prominence in the United States' foreign policy.

The bipartisan Tibetan Policy and Support Act of 2019 builds on and updates the Tibetan Policy Act of 2002.
