NEW YORK – On the morning of March 25, 2024, an unsuspecting Uber driver, Ms Lo-Letha Toland-Hall, drove to a house near Columbus, Ohio, to pick up a package.
She did not know that the 81-year-old man who lived there had just received a series of phone calls from scammers who threatened to kill him unless he handed over US$12,000 (S$15,300) in cash to the woman arriving at his home.
