It was the dog that did it, really.
In an incident in Colorado Springs, the United States, on June 26, a dog nearly set its owners’ house on fire when it accidentally turned on the stove, on which some boxes were placed.
Firefighters were dispatched to the affected house after the home owners reported a “fire on the stove” in their home.
When the crew arrived at the location just before 5am, they found evidence of a fire but no visible fire or smoke, as “the male home owner was able to extinguish the fire before crews got there”, the Colorado Springs fire department posted on its Facebook page.
After talking to the occupants of the house and looking through their home security footage, the fire department officials determined that “their pup got a bit curious and accidentally switched on” the stove, which had some boxes stacked on top of it.
The home owners said they were woken up by their Apple HomePod, which sent them a “high heat” notice, according to the department.
The male home owner was later sent to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported to other people or pets.
Department officials reminded people to always have working smoke alarms inside and outside every sleeping area and on every floor of the home.
People were also advised to ensure all combustibles are kept away from their stove tops or oven, and to familiarise themselves with escape routes in case of fire.
