Democrats cement their Senate majority with Georgia win

Easier now for Biden to pass legislation, but Congress still largely deadlocked

WASHINGTON – The Democratic Party secured a narrow but decisive majority in the US Senate on Tuesday, with incumbent Raphael Warnock’s win over his Republican challenger Herschel Walker in Georgia’s run-off election.

The Democrats’ 51-49 majority, which is one seat more than their majority in the current Congress, will make it slightly easier for President Joe Biden to push through legislation as well as nominations of officials and judges.
