Assassination brings US, Iran to the brink of war

The risk of a US-Iran war became more real with the assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani by a US drone strike in Baghdad yesterday.
This came despite assurances by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to foreign governments, and on American television that President Donald Trump had been restrained in reacting to Iranian provocation, and the US was "committed to de-escalation".
