Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger fathered his eighth child at the age of 73, with his 29-year-old American ballet dancer girlfriend Melanie Hamrick.

He has seven children, aged 17 to 45, with previous partners. He also has five grandchildren and became a great-grandfather two years ago.

The world's oldest father is believed to be Mr Ramajit Raghav, who was 94 years old when he fathered his first child in 2010. He and his then 52-year-old wife Shakuntala Devi had another son two years later. The farmer is from Kharkhoda village, located near New Delhi in India.

1. CHARLIE CHAPLIN

The English comic actor was Jagger's age when his wife Oona O'Neill - 36 years younger than him - gave birth to their son Christopher.

2. RUPERT MURDOCH

The Australian-born media mogul and his ex-wife Wendi Deng had a daughter in 2003 when he was 72. At that point, he already had five children from previous relationships. The oldest is aged 58 this year.

3. RONNIE WOOD

Jagger's bandmate became a dad this year at 68 when his actress wife Sally Humphreys, 38, gave birth to twin girls.

4. ROBERT DE NIRO

The Oscar-winning actor was also 68 when his wife Grace Hightower had a daughter born via a surrogate in 2011. De Niro has another child with Hightower, and four other children from previous relationships.

5. STEVE MARTIN

The comedian became a father for the first time at age 67, when his daughter was born in 2012 to him and his wife, journalist Anne Stringfield.
