SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean will represent Singapore at the state funeral for former Israeli president Shimon Peres on Friday (Sept 30), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement.
Mr Peres died on Wednesday (Sept 28) at age 93 after suffering a major stroke. His state funeral, to be attended by world leaders including US President Barack Obama and Britain's Prince Charles, will be held at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
DPM Teo, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security, said in the MFA press statement: "I had the honour of meeting Mr Peres and am saddened by his passing. Mr Peres saw opportunities for Israel and her neighbours to set aside differences and co-operate."
"His efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East will inspire future generations. His passing is a great loss to Israel and the global community."
Mr Teo will be accompanied by MFA officials.
