JERUSALEM - An attacker stabbed one man to death and seriously wounded another in an Israeli mall on July 3 before being shot dead, officials said.

Police said they were treating the double stabbing in the northern town of Karmiel as “a suspected terror attack”.

There have been a number of deadly incidents in Israeli cities since

the Gaza war against Hamas erupted on Oct 7.

“The attacker, whose identity is still unknown, was neutralised on site and his death was confirmed at the scene by medical officials,” police Northern District commander Shuki Tahauka told reporters at the mall.

The commander said security measures had been tightened in the region following the attack.

Paramedics said they rushed the two victims to hospital. One was later confirmed dead at the hospital, Mr Masad Barhoum, director of the Galilee Medical Centre, told Kan public television.

Paramedic Ran Moskowitz, one of the first responders, said both victims were men in their 20s.

Security camera footage broadcast on Israeli television appeared to show the assailant grappling with a person outside a clothing store in the mall before he was shot.

The incident came amid soaring tensions in Israel’s Palestinian community and in the occupied territories as

in the Gaza Strip. AFP
