LONDON – A team of senior US negotiators headed by Mr William Burns, director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), is back in the Middle East in the latest effort to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza war based on a June 1 plan by US President Joe Biden.
Although both Israel and Palestinian militant organisation Hamas have not formally rejected Mr Biden’s proposals, neither side seems to be getting any closer to accepting a ceasefire.
