LONDON – A second man has been arrested in connection with fires at two properties linked to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, London’s Metropolitan Police said on May 17.
Counter-terrorism officers detained the 26-year-old man at Luton Airport north of London on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson, the force said in a statement.
He was also being held in connection to a car that was set alight, the police added.
Ukrainian citizen Roman Lavrynovych, 21, was charged earlier this week over causing fires at the two properties, as well as the car, following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
He was remanded in custody after he appeared in court on May 16 charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life.
Lavrynovych was arrested on May 13 in connection with the spate of fires across north London, including a home in the Kentish Town area where Mr Starmer had lived with his family before becoming prime minister.
The charges against the Ukrainian were related to a car fire on May 8 in Kentish Town, a blaze on May 11 in front of the entrance of a property in the nearby Islington neighbourhood, and the fire at Mr Starmer’s home at night from May 11 to May 12, the prosecutor’s office said.
Mr Starmer is still the owner of the Kentish Town house, where he had lived until he moved into the prime minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street in July 2024, according to the British press. AFP
