LONDON – A Polish man obsessed with horror movies was jailed for life on March 28 in Britain for murdering and dismembering his landlord, and cutting up the body into 27 pieces with a hacksaw.
Marcin Majerkiewicz, 42, battered his friend, pensioner Stuart Everett, 67, with a hammer, bludgeoning him to death on March 28, 2024, Manchester Crown Court was told.
He then disposed of Mr Everett’s body by putting the sawn-off parts into plastic bags and carrying them on the bus, making several journeys across Salford and Manchester in north-western England to get rid of the evidence.
Mr Everett’s chest was found at a Salford nature reserve by a member of the public. But much of his body is still missing.
The police said the killer had a fixation with horror and gore, and had a tattoo of Jason Voorhees, a fictional murderer from the Friday The 13th slasher films.
“You acted in an almost unbelievably cold-blooded and macabre way, and showed complete disrespect and contempt for your friend’s remains,” Judge John Cavanagh said.
The judge said Majerkiewicz had been crippled by more than £70,000 (S$120,000) of debts and had planned to steal Mr Everett’s money.
A father of two, Majerkiewicz had denied the charges, but was found guilty by a jury after a three-week trial.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment, and ordered to serve a minimum of 34 years. AFP
