Macron has looming fight on his hands despite French presidential election win

LONDON - It was not an outstanding triumph, but at least a clear victory: French President Emmanuel Macron has confounded opinion pollsters by winning re-election with a more significant margin than initially anticipated.

Current projections indicate that Mr Macron got just over 58.5 per cent of the vote, against 41.4 per cent for Ms Marine Le Pen, the far-right candidate.
