France's centrist president Emmanuel Macron won 27.85 per cent of the votes in Sunday's first round of the presidential election, while far-right leader Marine Le Pen scored 23.15 per cent. Far-left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon got 21.95 per cent, knocking him out. His electorate will be key for determining how the other two will fare in April 24's face-off.
