Big win for Scholz govt as Taiwan chip giant TSMC set to build first EU plant in Germany

With the US lavishing taxpayers’ cash on chip manufacturers to entice them to America, the German government makes no apologies for copying the same model.

Critics of the project point out that TSMC does not plan to produce its smallest and most powerful chips in Dresden.

- The German government is ecstatic that it has succeeded in luring Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, to build its first European chip factory on German soil.

“Germany is an attractive and competitive location, especially for key technologies such as microelectronics,” Economics Minister Robert Habeck said, hailing TSMC’s decision.
