Apple’s streaming service went down for some users on the night of Nov 6 shortly after the

debut of the widely anticipated Pluribus

, a new series from the creator of Breaking Bad.

Users across the US and Canada started reporting the service crashing around 10.30pm Eastern time (11.30am on Nov 7, Singapore time), not long after the first two episodes of the new drama were made available to stream.

They surged to nearly 13,000 reports on Downdetector before Apple updated its status pages to acknowledge the outage, saying it is investigating the problem. The company also noted issues with its Apple Music and Apple Arcade online services.

The downtime comes at a bad time for Apple, which billed Pluribus as one of its major exclusive attractions.

Apple TV is competing with a large group of online streamers, from Netflix and Walt Disney-owned Hulu to forays by tech rivals like Amazon.

The Cupertino, California-based company

recorded US$28.8 billion (S$37.6 billion) in sales

from its services division in the September quarter, a new high, and looks to that part of the business to drive growth by drawing in more subscribers to premium services like Apple TV. BLOOMBERG
