(REUTERS) - US Coast Guard crews searching hurricane-battered waters for missing cargo ship El Faro find more debris and an oil sheen, one day after finding a life ring that came from the ship.

Newly released video footage showed a US Coast Guard aircrew hoisting a life ring onto a search helicopter.

Officials confirm one of the three life rings found on Saturday (Oct 3) came from the El Faro, as Coast Guard crews combed the ocean looking for the ship and its 33 missing crew members for a third day on Sunday. The search and rescue teams found life jackets, containers and an oil sheen, but they could not be confirmed to be from the El Faro.

The cargo ship, with 28 US citizens and five Polish nationals aboard, went missing in the eye of Hurricane Joaquin. Then a Category 4 hurricane, the storm battered the Bahamas for more than two days with 210kmh winds.

The El Faro sent a distress call from the Bahamas on Thursday. The 735-foot container ship has not been seen since.
