SINGAPORE - In a first for its gaming computers here, Asus will bundle an accidental damage protection plan with its new ROG Zephyrus GX501 gaming laptop. The plan protects the device from accidents like water spillage and cracked screens.
In addition, Asus says that selected new gaming laptops and desktops bought from Oct 2 onwards will be eligible for the plan.
The Zephyrus is the first Nvidia Max-Q gaming laptop to launch in Singapore. These notebooks are designed with graphics chipmaker Nvidia to be slim yet powerful. Despite having a slim chassis that weighs around 2.2kg and is under 18mm thick, the Zephyrus sports Nvidia's flagship GTX 1080 graphics chip. This chip is usually reserved for chunkier and larger 17-inch models that have better cooling systems.
It has a unique cooling mechanism where a panel at its base opens up to suck in 20 per cent more cool air to improve air circulation to the warm parts of the notebook.
Gamers would benefit from smooth and fluid gameplay, thanks to its Nvidia G-Sync displaywith a 120Hz refresh rate. This display synchronises with a game's frame rates to reduce screen tearing and stuttering. The Zephyrus also has a RGB backlit keyboard that can register up to 30 simultaneous key presses.
Asus has also collaborated with Casio to produce a limited edition G-Shock Watch - the ROG Masters 2017 Edition. Only 500 pieces are available worldwide and it will be bundled with each purchase of the Zephyrus, until Dec 10, subject to stock availability.
The ROG Zephyrus GX501 is available now at $4,898 at authorised retailers. It comes in a single configuration with an Intel Core i7 processor, 24GB of RAM and a 512GB solid-state drive.
