While smartphone brands battle over tech specs, one is focused on winning hearts.
Even as its newest flagship, the Find N5, impresses as the world’s thinnest foldable phone, OPPO
Recalling the team’s encounter with an elderly, vision-impaired customer, he says: “Our staff member not only activated the low-vision features, but he also used the phone’s screen recording feature to record what he did.
“This way, the customer’s caregiver could watch the video recordings and help set up the phone in the same way, saving the customer a return trip to the service centre.”
Mr Tan says the customer was so touched by the gesture that she encouraged her friends to switch to OPPO.
“It’s not easy to get people to switch phone brands these days,” he adds, noting that the human touch that matters, especially in this age of artificial intelligence (AI).
That commitment to care, he says, stems from something simple yet powerful. “We have a philosophy in our company known as ‘ben fen’, which means always doing the right thing for our customers.”
To walk the talk, OPPO pursues excellence in both technology and customer care. After all, customers who buy flagship phones deserve flagship service.

He adds: “When premium customers visit our service centres, they get access to an exclusive lane and priority service.”

OPPO currently operates two service centres at Novena Square and the Westgate mall – the third will open soon in the east. Customers are often surprised to see that phone repairs are done right in front of them instead of behind closed doors.
“Some of our customers told us that they bought an OPPO phone because of this open concept at our service centre,” says Mr Tan. “They know what is being done to their devices and thus feel confident that their private data will be protected.”
And if a repair requires more than 48 hours, premium customers will receive a loan phone, so their work and personal lives can continue uninterrupted.
OPPO has released five foldable models since 2021, each with an outer and inner screen. To help keep these smartphones looking pristine over the two-year warranty period, OPPO will now replace the screen protectors twice a year for free.
Co-developed with iconic Swedish brand Hasselblad, the Find N5 offers pro-level photo modes and lets users preview selfies with its 50-megapixel rear cameras.

The screen protector perk will come in handy, especially for Find N5 users, who are expected to take full advantage of its large, tablet-like inner display.
“We have a strong responsibility to take care of our customers, and this is why we continue to invest in both technology and ensuring they have a great user experience all the time.”
More than just a sleek device
Foldables have advanced rapidly in design, but many still assume they are bulky, delicate or just a gimmick, says Mr Tan. OPPO sees foldables as the future of smartphones and has repeatedly innovated to address these concerns.
Take the Find N5’s hinge, for example, which is an engineering and aesthetic achievement.
The Find N5’s hinge proves its strength by holding a 20kg suitcase – on display at OPPO’s Suntec City store.

“The Find N5 is certified by TUV Rheinland to be unfolded 100 times a day for six years,” says Mr Tan. This is possible thanks to a robust hinge made of a titanium alloy and reinforced with Ultra-High-Strength steel.
The hinge can withstand the weight of a 20kg dumbbell and suitcase without damage.
“The crease in the middle of the inner screen will not be noticeable even after a long period of use,” he adds.
OPPO Find N5 users and those who own the Find X or N series can call an exclusive hotline for customer support.

To make the phone even more durable, the frame is made of aircraft-grade aluminium that is anodised and corrosion-resistant. The dual displays are covered with microcrystalline glass, which has improved puncture resistance.
To top it off, the phone has IPX9 water resistance, meaning it can survive a 30-minute dunk in 1.5m deep water.
Customer-centric features
OPPO did not stop at rethinking the form factor. To drive faster adoption of foldables, it has introduced other innovations that enhance usability, performance and cross-platform compatibility.
The company has partnered with leading app developers like Grab and Shopee to optimise the dual-screen experience. It has also enabled seamless file synchronisation with Apple MacBooks, making it easier for users to work across devices.
To boost multitasking, the Find N5 allows users to run three apps simultaneously on the unfolded inner screen.
“Users feel like they have three smartphones,” says Mr Tan.
The Oled displays reduce blue light emission and include an “Eye Comfort Tone” feature that adjusts colour temperature to reduce eye strain in dark environments.
The Find N5 comes in two elegant finishes, cosmic black and misty white.

Despite its slim profile, the Find N5 packs a class-leading 5600mAh battery. By placing two ultra-thin batteries on either side of the phone, OPPO delivers up to 25 hours of continuous video streaming or 8.6 hours of Zoom meetings.
The phone also comes with smart tools, including a dual-screen interpreter for real-time translations, and AI-generated summaries for calls and documents.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the Hasselblad portrait and photo modes – developed with the iconic Swedish camera brand – for professional-level shots. Thanks to the foldable design, users can also preview selfies using the 50-megapixel rear cameras.
“People may ask why they need a foldable,” says Mr Tan. “Once they try the Find N5, they’ll realise it’s a real workhorse. You no longer need to carry both your phone and your tablet.”
