The Oclean One is a smart sonic electric toothbrush.

Compared to regular electric toothbrushes, sonic toothbrushes produce much faster brush strokes - up to 50,000 strokes with the Oclean One.

Sonic toothbrushes are regarded as an efficient way to stimulate the gums as well as remove plaque, bacteria and stains from teeth. But there is really no way to know if you are brushing your teeth right. This is where Oclean One wants to be smart about it.

The toothbrush is smart, because it has a built-in gyroscope capable of recording pressure, motion and angle during brushing. This data is synced with the Oclean app (available on Android and iOS) on your smartphone to tell you how well you are brushing your teeth.

When you first start the Oclean app, it will ask you several questions, such as whether you smoke, drink coffee and wear braces, as well as the intensity of your teeth stain.

Once you are done with the questions, it will recommend the most suitable brushing programme. There are 12 kinds of customised brushing programmes that can be classified under three modes - Clean, Whiten and Massage. Each mode has four grades of cleaning intensity. You can also customise one to your liking and sync it with the Oclean One.

Design wise, the Oclean One looks sleek with its unibody design and single power button. It comes in black (version reviewed), white and pink.

It has a water-resistant rating of IPX7. In other words, it should work fine for brushing. Just don't dunk it under water.

Unlike most smart toothbrushes, the Oclean One has built-in speakers. When you power it up, it will say "Oclean!". It also allows you to record audio clips via the app, which the toothbrush will play back to you when you start brushing. This is great when you need to remind yourself of chores to do in the morning, before you get to work.

The brushing itself feels efficient- I was done within 2min. This is half of what I usually take with my regular manual brushing .

But I am disappointed that the Oclean One could not provide me with audio guidance like "time to brush your left molars", or something like that, during brushing.

The toothbrush will keep track of your brushing and how well you did. The app scored me over 90 per cent for my brushing. I was hoping that the Oclean would give me recommendations on how to improve my teeth-brushing techniques. But I feel that I am not getting much feedback in this aspect, as it only tells me that my brushing gesture is correct or brushing intensity is standard.

Battery life has been an issue with some smart toothbrushes. But this is not the case with the Oclean One, which is rated to last for three months. I have been testing the Oclean One for a month, and it is still going strong.

However, the best part about the Oclean One is its price. Other smart toothbrushes can cost over $300 but the Oclean One is just over $100.

Verdict: The Oclean One is a smart electric toothbrush that does the job with long battery life and at a good price.
