SINGAPORE - IT megastore Challenger will shut its flagship store at Funan DigitaLife Mall after the building closes for redevelopment from third quarter next year.

Challenger has been an anchor tenant at Funan for more than 20 years. The Straits Times understands that it will not reopen its flagship store in another location for now.

The retailer said it has since 2009 been getting more business from its 46 other outlets islandwide.

Said chief executive officer Mr Loo Leong Thye: "Over the last seven years, many of our members and even tourists have also begun shopping at our heartland mall stores."

In the third quarter of this year, its Funan megastore contributed only 20 per cent to total revenue, compared with 60 per cent in 2004.

"With our mobile-first revamp coming in early 2016, more Challenger customers will switch to shopping with us online. They will enjoy online-only member deals, always-on rebates credited to their eWallets and even same-day express delivery," said Mr Loo.
