2015's best gadgets and games to be honoured at The Straits Times Digital Awards

SINGAPORE - The best gadgets and games of last year will be honoured at The Straits Times Digital Awards 2016 on Tuesday (Feb 23).

The annual awards, into its fifth year, allows Straits Times readers to vote for their favourite tech products.

Previously known as the the Digital Life Awards, it has been renamed to its current title to reflect ST Digital's move to a broadsheet format.

Up for grabs are 21 different categories for each of the Editors' Choice and Readers' Choice awards, which include Best Overall Smartphone, Best Phablet, Best Hybrid Laptop, Best Consumer Camera and best games split according to their different genres.

Two new categories - Best Smartwatch and Best Fitness Tracker - have also been added this year.

There are a total of 105 finalists.

The Editors' Choice awards are picked by the editorial team at The Straits Times Digital, while ST readers participated in an online poll in December last year to determine the winners in the Readers' Choice awards.

Among the frontrunners for the awards include tech giant Apple's products, which have been nominated in six categories - Best Phablet (iPhone 6S Plus), Best Overall Smartphone (iPhone 6S), Best Smartphone Camera (iPhone 6S Plus), Best Tablet (iPad Pro), Best Smartwatch (Apple Watch) and Most Innovative Product (3D Touch).

Canon has four nominations out of five in the camera categories, while Asus is in the running in all four laptop categories.

The prize for Best Overall Game will be fought between Batman: Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Fallout 4.

Last year, Samsung and Sony emerged as the biggest winners of the awards, with each taking home seven awards.
