Loh Kean Yew typically packs five rackets, which are strung at 31 pounds (14kg) to give him more power and control, in his bag for overseas competitions.

Beginner rackets are usually strung at 17 to 20 pounds so, at 31 pounds, the strings may break more easily, which is why he also brings along multiple rackets.

Loh, who opened his singles campaign in Paris with victory against Jan Louda of the Czech Republic on July 28, packs all his gear in one badminton bag, which is big enough to fit everything.

The world No. 13 said: “Fun fact: I usually don’t remove the tag that comes with the bag, but it’s not because I want to resell it online lah.”

Loh brings an extra set of insoles in case the ones in his shoes are damaged from all the running during a match.
