MELBOURNE - Highlights of the third day of the Australian Open on Tuesday (all times GMT):
1205 QUALIFIER FONSECA BEATS RUBLEV IN STRAIGHT SETS
Brazilian qualifier Joao Fonseca beat Russian ninth seed Andrey Rublev 7-6(1) 6-3 7-6(5) to advance to the second round.
The 18-year-old has become only the second teenager since 1973 to defeat an ATP top-10 player in their debut Grand Slam main draw, after Mario Ancic knocked out Roger Federer in Wimbledon 2002.
Fonseca will next meet Italian Lorenzo Sonego who beat three-times Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka 6-4 5-7 7-5 7-5.
1145 POPYRIN STUNNED BY MOUTET IN FIRST ROUND
Corentin Moutet beat Australian Alexei Popyrin 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 in three and half hours, much to the home crowd's dismay. The 25-year-old Frenchman will meet American qualifier Mitchell Krueger next.

1148 OSARIO KNOCKS OUT SAKKARI
Colombian Camila Osorio beat former French Open and U.S. Open semi-finalist Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-7(4) 6-4 to advance to the second round where she will meet former Wimbledon and U.S. Open runner-up Ons Jabeur.
1048 DE MINAUR SERVES IT OUT IN STYLE
Australian eighth seed Alex de Minaur beat Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-1 7-5 6-4, sealing the match with an ace, to advance to the second round where he will face American qualifier Tristan Boyer.
1015 JABEUR CRUISES THROUGH TO SECOND ROUND
Former Wimbledon and U.S. Open runner-up Ons Jabeur beat Ukranian Anhelina Kalinina 6-3 6-3 to advance into round two where she will meet either Camila Osorio or Maria Sakkari.
0940 MUSETTI SURVIVES ARNALDI IN ALL ITALIAN BATTLE
16th seed Lorenzo Musetti battled past Matteo Arnaldi 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(5) 6-3 in more than four hours to reach the second round of the Australian Open.
0926 PAOLINI EASES INTO SECOND ROUND
Fourth seed Jasmine Paolini breezed past China's Sijia Wei 6-0 6-4 to move into the second round.
Italian Paolini reached two Grand Slam finals last year and is looking to improve on her fourth-round exit at Melbourne Park in 2024.
0836 SHELTON OUSTS NAKASHIMA
Ben Shelton beat Brandon Nakashima 7-6(3) 7-5 7-5 in a tight all-American clash to secure his first win in 2025 and move into the second round.
0734 MEDVEDEV OVERCOMES HIS ANGER TO BEAT THAI WILDCARD
Three-times runner-up Daniil Medvedev beat Thai wildcard Kasidit Samrej 6-2 4-6 3-6 6-1 6-2 to move into the second round after the Russian found himself in trouble early on.
A frustrated Medvedev smashed his racket on the net camera when he lost the third set but regained his composure to advance.
0630 MONFILS TRIUMPHS IN FIVE SETS
French 38-year-old Gael Monfils beat compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who is 17 years his junior, 7-6(7) 6-3 6-7(6) 6-7(5) 6-4 in a first-round match that lasted nearly four hours.
Monfils, who won the Auckland Open earlier this month, had match points in the third set before he was stretched to five despite not conceding a single break point.
0506 RYBAKINA DISPATCHES TEENAGER JONES
Sixth seed and 2023 finalist Elena Rybakina had no problems seeing off 16-year-old Australian wildcard Emerson Jones 6-1 6-1 at Margaret Court Arena.
"She has a great future and many more years on tour," Rybakina said of the junior world number one. "She's very young and very talented."
0405 NAVARRO WINS MARATHON BATTLE WITH STEARNS
American eighth seed Emma Navarro needed three hours and 20 minutes to beat compatriot Peyton Stearns 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 7-5 at Rod Laver Arena.
0355 RUNE TESTED IN FIVE-SETTER
Denmark's 13th seed Holger Rune came through a roller-coaster match to beat China's Zhang Zhizhen 4-6 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-4 and set up a second-round match against Matteo Berrettini.
"Very exciting match. We played twice last year, two three-set matches (at Masters events). Luckily I got to win those two but let's see," Rune said.
0333 FRITZ THROUGH IN STRAIGHT SETS
Fourth seed Taylor Fritz beat Jenson Brooksby 6-2 6-0 6-3 in an all-American clash to book his spot in the second round.
Fritz was in full control and won 11 straight games at one point to beat Brooksby, who was returning to Grand Slam action for the first time in two years after injuries and a doping suspension.
0309 BERRETTINI KNOCKS OUT NORRIE
Matteo Berrettini got the better of Cameron Norrie with a 6-7(4) 6-4 6-1 6-3 first-round victory at the Kia Arena to claim his first win at Melbourne Park since his semi-final run in 2022.
"It's been a long time since I won a match here," said the Italian, who suffered a first-round loss in 2023 and missed the Slam last year.
0248 HADDAD MAIA FIGHTS BACK TO ADVANCE
Brazilian 15th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia survived an early scare in her first-round match before beating Argentine qualifier Julia Riera 4-6 7-5 6-2.
It was also Haddad Maia's first win in 2025 after losses at the United Cup and a first round exit in Adelaide.
0225 RADUCANU KNOCKS OUT ALEXANDROVA
Former U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu beat Russian 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6(4) 7-6(2) despite the Briton making 15 double faults in a match that saw a combined 12 break points converted.
0120 KASATKINA RACES INTO SECOND ROUND
Daria Kasatkina wasted no time in racing into the second round on John Cain Arena, the Russian ninth seed hitting 22 winners in her 6-1 6-3 victory over Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova.
0015 PLAY UNDERWAY UNDER SUNNY SKIES ON DAY THREE
Play got underway on schedule in bright sunshine on day three of the championships at Melbourne Park with the temperature 21 degrees Celsius (70F) and forecast to peak at 26.
The first round continues with Daniil Medvedev, home favourite Alex de Minaur and Italy's Jasmine Paolini in action, while Taylor Fritz battles Jenson Brooksby in one of three all-American clashes. REUTERS
