SINGAPORE - New Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber has vaulted to the top of the Road to Singapore leaderboard, the race to the season-ending BNP Paribas WTA Finals to be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The 28-year-old German tennis player became the first Grand Slam champion of this season following her sensational upset of world No. 1 Serena Williams in last Saturday's final in Melbourne.
Following her triumph, she is now the world No. 2 (behind Williams), and has amassed 2,360 points on the RTS leaderboard. Williams is second (1,300 points), while reigning WTA Finals winner Agnieszka Radwanska is third (1,060 points).
The season finale will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams.
The current joint world No. 1 doubles pair of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza top the doubles RTS leaderboard with 2,940 points. The Swiss-Indian duo are unbeaten in 36 matches, a winning run extended by their most recent victory at the Australian Open.
