SINGAPORE - Sacrifice for a professional athlete takes many forms. For Hugo Calderano, it often means time away from his family in Brazil.

Due to the pandemic, he did not see his parents and younger sister for one and a half years, only briefly reuniting with them just before this year's Tokyo Olympics in July.
