SINGAPORE - More counters, extended collection time and a larger venue are some of the new changes at the Osim Sundown Marathon race pack collection this year, following last year's delay that drew flak from participants.
Hiccups in the collection process saw participants queuing outdoors for several hours last year. Many took to the event's Facebook page to voice their discontentment.
To better manage the crowd, this year's collection period will be held over four days from May 10 to 13 at Suntec City - up from three days in 2016. The collection time will also be extended by two hours to between 11am and 9pm.
"Suntec City had been a popular collection venue with participants in 2016 which made the decision to return an easy one," said the race organisers in a press statement on Tuesday (Feb 6).
The queue process will also be revamped with 33 collection counters, compared to 20 in 2017 when it was held at the F1 Pit Building. More manpower will also be deployed to assist runners with queries, while live queue updates can be found on the event's Facebook page.
A "fast track" option - similar to the service provided at banks to manage queues - will also be available for participants who prefer to collect their race packs at a pre-determined time instead of waiting in line.
From Apr 23 to May 6, runners who register for the race online can also opt to have their race packs delivered to them at a fee of $10. This service is capped at 2,500 runners on a first-come, first-served basis.
An electronic bib assignment system commonly used at renowned races like the Ironman triathlon will also be implemented at the race for the first time to speed up registration and race pack collection.
The 11th edition of the Sundown Marathon will be held on May 19 at the F1 Pit Building.
Registration for the race is now open, with discounts of up to $25 until Feb 28.
