SINGAPORE – Singaporean golfer Shannon Tan missed out on a spot in the LPGA Tour for the 2025 season, as her involvement in the series’ final qualifying stage concluded on Dec 8 after four rounds at the Magnolia Grove Golf Club.

Competing in Alabama, United States, the 20-year-old shot a two-over 73 in the fourth round of the tournament, finishing with a 10-over 296 total that placed her below the cut at tied-94th.

Overall, 67 players, including Major champions Sophia Popov and Pernilla Lindberg, made the cut at two-over or better.

After the final round on Dec 9, the top 25 and ties will earn membership for the 2025 LPGA Tour season.

Tan endured a difficult first two rounds, opening with a four-over 76 at the Crossings Course on Dec 5, before following that up with a seven-over 78 at the Falls Course.

Returning to the Crossings Course on the third day of the event, she put in an improved performance with a three-under 69 before closing out with a 73 in the fourth round.

By completing four rounds, Tan earned Category C status for the Epson Tour, the second tier of the women’s professional circuit in the US, but she will continue to play on the Ladies European Tour (LET) in 2025.

This wraps up what has been a remarkable first year as a professional golfer for Tan. A dream start on the LET saw her win her first event, the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, in February.

She then became the first Singaporean golfer to compete at the Olympics in August, placing 40th at Le Golf National.

A few weeks later, she became just the second Singaporean to make the cut at a Major when she achieved the feat at the Women’s British Open at St Andrews.

Tan eventually finished sixth on LET’s Order of Merit with €191,807.61 (S$270,000), claiming four more top-10 finishes this season.
