PARIS - On a damp, cloudy day, which was wind-less and thus perfect for rowing, Saiyidah Aisyah, the 36-year-old Singaporean rower, came fifth in her heat of five rowers at the 2024 Paris Olympics
The top three rowers go directly to the quarter-finals and Aisyah advances to the Repechage to be held on July 28. “Definitely not my best performance,” the Singaporean said after her event. “The power was just not there. The speed was not there.
“I’m still nursing the injury (to her rib area). I don’t want it to be an excuse, but I also know that to manage my emotions, manage my expectations. But I feel like tomorrow is another chance for me to redeem myself.”
Aisyah, who in 2016 became the Singaporean to row at an Olympics, competed in the fifth of six heats in the women’s singles sculls at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. In 2016, she directly advanced to the quarter-finals after coming third in her heat.
