SINGAPORE – Local residents will have more complimentary Formula One-themed activities to look forward to in the lead-up to the 2024 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.
Race promoter Singapore GP said it has increased the number of behind-the-scenes tours of the F1 Pit Building at Marina Bay Street Circuit and will be able to accommodate about 1,000 participants in 32 sessions over four weekends from July to August, an increase from the 250 attendees over eight sessions in 2023.
Fans will get the chance to gain insights into the operations of F1’s iconic night race, learn more about Singapore GP’s sustainability practices and access restricted areas such as the race control room, media centre and podium.
Tickets are available to residents via a ballot that is open from now till July 14 on the Singapore GP website.
The activities are part of Singapore GP’s #RevUpSG community engagement campaign and will run till September as the nation gears up for the Sept 20-22 Singapore GP.
There is also a go-karting competition and a pit-lane walk – with tickets also available via website balloting – and pop-up festivals in the heartlands.
Racing enthusiasts can take on the Karting Challenge on Aug 3 and 4 at HyperDrive, an indoor gamified electric go-kart circuit at The Palawan @ Sentosa. Balloting for this also ends on July 14.
The challenge is open to locals who will be grouped into two categories – those aged between nine and 17, and those 18 and above. All participants must have a minimum height of 140cm.
The top three racers in each category will also stand to win prizes, such as tickets to the Singapore GP, Red Bull products and merchandise.
Pop-up festivals around the island will give residents the chance to have a go at race simulators and experience the adrenaline rush of racing in an open-cockpit vehicle.
The festivals will be held at Suntec City’s Tower 1 and 2 Atrium on July 27 and 28, One Punggol on Aug 24 and 25, and Toa Payoh HDB Hub on Aug 31 and Sept 1. F1 fans can cheer on their favourite drivers at live screenings of the Belgian, Dutch and Italian Grands Prix respectively.
On Sept 19, the eve of the Singapore race weekend, the Pit Lane Experience will be held again, with a slightly higher capacity.
Up to 4,500 lucky residents, an increase from 4,000 in 2023, will get to access the pit lane and see the F1 team garages before the gates to the Circuit Park officially open. Balloting for this opens from Aug 1.
