SEA Games: Swimmer Quah Ting Wen is Team Singapore's flag bearer

SOME 1,000 athletes and officials, who will represent Singapore in all 36 sports at next month's SEA Games, gathered at the OCBC Square to witness the Team Singapore 28th SEA Games flag presentation ceremony on Tuesday evening

Swimmer Quah Ting Wen, the flag bearer, received the five stars and crescent moon from chefs de mission Dr Tan Eng Liang and Nicholas Fang. The duo had received the national flag from Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council. Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, also graced the event.

Gymnast Hoe Wah Toon, 25, led the contingent in the pledge-taking, as onlookers craned their necks to look at the athletes who will be flying Singapore's flag high at the biennial meet next month.

Quah, 22, who is taking part in her fifth SEA Games, said: "My aspiration for the 28th SEA Games is to go for my best times and I hope to bring pride to the country as a united Team Singapore."

Said Mr Tan: "Hosting the SEA Games in Singapore during its 50th anniversary celebrations is hugely significant... I know that our athletes and our citizens will be great ambassadors for Singapore.

"I believe we can all be inspired by the 28th SEA Games and to not only achieve greater heights in sport, but to be united as one nation and one people."
