SEA Games: Singapore in disappointing start in dragon boat races

Despite high hopes of clinching at least four gold medals on home soil, Singapore's dragon boaters got off to a lacklustre start at the 200m traditional boat race events at The Pormontory@Marina Bay on Saturday.

The men's team settled for a bronze for the men's 200m six-crew race, while the remaining three races saw no podium finish for both the men's and women's teams.

However, the bronze is Singapore's first medal by the men's dragon boat team in 22 years with their last a gold coming in 1993 edition hosted in Singapore.

Meanwhile, Thailand swept the men's and women's 200m six-crew golds confidently while Indonesia muscled to the men's and women's 200m 12-crew golds. Regional powerhouse Myanmar fell below expectations, winning only two silvers in the six-crew events.
