SINGAPORE - Quah Zheng Wen won the Republic's first swimming gold in record-breaking fashion at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on Saturday evening, smashing both the SEA Games and national record in the men's 100m backstroke.
Quah's time of 54.51sec put him more than a full second ahead of Indonesia's I Gede Siman Sudartawa (55.60sec). Vietnam's Tan Duy Khoi finished third with a time of 56.31sec.
Earlier, the 18-year-old had to settle for a silver in the men's 200m freestyle when he finished 0.21sec behind Vietnam's Hoang Quy Phuoc (1min48.96sec).
