SINGAPORE - The Singapore men's sepak takraw team clinched their first medal in over two decades with a silver in the final men's regu match on Saturday afternoon.
Team captain Mohamad Farhan Amran, Muhammad Hafiz Jaafar and Muhammad Yassin Suhaimi romped to a straight-sets win over the Philippines.
They picked up on the momentum of the home crowd's cheers to beat their opponents - already out of the running for a medal - 21-13, 21-11 to take the silver medal.
Said a visibly-touched Amran: "It was exciting because I've never felt this atmosphere for quite some time... I'm speechless."
Malaysia and Laos took gold and bronze respectively. The sport's doubles matches will commence tomorrow.
