School sports: VJC and NYJC triumph again in national A Division volleyball

SINGAPORE - The defending champions ruled the day in the schools national A Division volleyball finals when both Victoria Junior College (VJC) and Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) retained the boys' and girls' title respectively on Wednesday at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

In their match against Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), the Nanyang girls comfortably won in three straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-11).

Before Wednesday's final, the two schools had met earlier in the group stages where HCI came out on top - picking up a 2-0 (26-24,25-21) win.

VJC were third, with Anglo-Chinese Junior College fourth.

It was a tighter affair in the boys' final where VJC edged out NYJC 3-2.

VJC lost the opening set 23-25 but won the next two (25-22, 28-26) before NYJC made things interesting when they claimed the fourth set (27-25).

VJC held their nerves to clinch the final set 15-7 for the championship.

HCI and Anderson Junior College took third and fourth place respectively .
