School sports: RI beat Fairfield Methodist 4-1 to win fourth consecutive C boys' crown

SINGAPORE - Raffles Institution (RI) reinforced their status as the kingpins of squash, when they bagged the Schools National C Division boys' title for the fourth consecutive year.

The Bishan school defeated rivals Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) 4-1 in the final held at the Kallang Squash Centre on Tuesday.

RI quickly got their noses in front, as Dylan Fernandez beat Kevin Kee 12-10, 11-9, 11-7, and Josiah Chong defeated Ryan Lee 11-6, 11-8, 11-7.

Jerome Aw won a point for Fairfield, when he ousted Jovan Lee 11-6, 5-11, 11-5, 11-4.

But despite a valiant effort by Waye Lee in a thrilling fourth tie, Fairfield could not take the final down to the wire.

Lim Tze Shaun, one of three Year 1 students in the RI line-up, held his nerve to defeat his opponent 4-11, 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9 to wrap up the victory for his school.

Zacheus Yeo beat Gabriel Chow 11-6, 11-9, 11-0 in the dead rubber.

The C girls' final between Singapore Chinese Girls' School and Raffles Girls' School will be held on Thursday at 1pm at the same venue.
