RIO DE JANEIRO - National shooter Teo Shun Xie could not recover from a disappointing start in the women's 10m air pistol event at the Rio Olympics and failed to advance to the final on Sunday morning.

Her scores of 93, 95, 91, 96 during the qualifying round saw her finish with a 375 total and 37th place out of 44 participants at the National Shooting Center.

Teo said: "Nerves got the better of me. Everything was okay in the warm-up and the sighting but when they said 'your time starts now', I was very nervous and the gun was shaking so much when I aimed at the target.

"It's a disappointing result but hopefully, I'll learn from this and not make the same mistakes for the 25m pistol event next."

Russian Vitalina Batsarashkina was the top qualifier with a 390 score. The top eight shooters progressed onto the final. In eighth position was Spain's Sonia Franquet with a score of 384.
