RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) - Chinese weightlifter Meng Suping grabbed Olympic gold in the women's Over-75kg category on Sunday, as Sarah Robles claimed a rare weightlifting medal for the United States.

Meng lifted a combined total of 307kg, just 1kg ahead of North Korea's Kim Kuk Hyang. Robles took bronze on 286kg.

The 27-year-old Meng's first-place finish was China's fifth weightlifting gold medal of Rio 2016. She lifted 130kg in the snatch and 177kg with her final clean and jerk to push Kim into second place.

Both Kim, 23, and 28-year-old Robles previously served two-year doping bans.
