JAKARTA - So close, yet so far.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Tiffany Teo was the first Singaporean to fight in a title bout in One Championship on Saturday night (Jan 20), but lost her women's strawweight (52.3-56.7kg) bout to China's Xiong Jingnan at the Jakarta Convention Centre.

Teo, 27, had a perfect 7-0 professional fight record before last night's bout - the main event of the Kings of Courage show - but her winning streak was halted by her 28-year-old opponent with 2min 41sec left in the fourth round.

Teo was sent to hospital after the bout for a check-up.

"I want to thank One for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams," said a jubilant Xiong in a stage-side interview after her victory.

"I am proud to represent China."

With her win last night, Xiong stretched her professional fight record to 11-1.
