Erik ten Hag’s departure

came on Oct 28, 2024 tells much of the continuing crises of confidence at Manchester United. English football’s biggest club has become a citadel of indecision, of good money thrown after bad.

In purest, 20-20 hindsight, removing the Dutchman after the FA Cup final would have suited all. Ten Hag had another notch on his CV in downing mighty Manchester City. He could also depart with a sense of vindication, and United’s decision-makers, now headed by Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos operatives, could have had a summer to rebuild.
