SINGAPORE – Golf fans in Singapore can expect to see more top-pedigree players as Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre, who featured in the 2023 Ryder Cup, is set to play in the US$2.5 million (S$3.44 million) Porsche Singapore Classic from March 20 to 23.
The world No. 14 will make his second appearance at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club, having featured in the inaugural edition in 2023, the organisers said on Jan 13.
MacIntyre said: “I’m really excited to be playing in the Porsche Singapore Classic again this year. The fans were amazing last time, and Laguna National is a great course to start the season’s Asian swing.”
Following his appearance in the 2023 edition, where he missed the halfway cut, he won his first PGA Tour title at the Canadian Open in June 2024.
A month later, he followed up with a historic victory at the Scottish Open, where he became the first Scottish golfer to win his home event since Colin Montgomerie in 1999.
The 28-year-old added: “I want to keep improving, keep moving up the world rankings and compete at the biggest events.
“The Porsche Singapore Classic is a key stop on the global golf calendar, and I’m excited to get back out there and be part of it again.”
Porsche Singapore Classic executive championship director Patrick Bowers said the tournament is proud to welcome MacIntyre back.
“Since featuring in the very first edition of the event in 2023, Bob has gone on to achieve remarkable results on the golf course, including clinching his first PGA Tour title and third DP World Tour title last year,” he said, adding that spectators can look forward to “world-class golf” at Laguna in March.
This will be the third edition of the Singapore Classic. The inaugural edition was won by South African Ockie Strydom, followed by Sweden’s Jesper Svensson in 2024.
The DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, first came to Singapore in 1993.
The inaugural tournament was won by Nick Faldo, with fellow Major champions Vijay Singh and Adam Scott also winning subsequent DP World Tour events in Singapore.
