Golf: Olesen bags Turkish million by three strokes after nearly letting seven-shot lead slip

BELEK, Turkey (AFP) - Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen clung on as his lead dropped from seven shots to one from mid-round to win the €1 million (S$1.54 million) first prize at the Turkish Airlines Open at Belek.

Olesen, 26, went into the final day leading by seven strokes and despite the dramatic drop, the Dane eventually won by three with a round of two-under 69 for a 20-under par 264 tally on the Regnum Carya Resort course.

It is Olesen's fourth European Tour success and has taken his career earnings above the €7 million barrier in his seventh season on the golf tour.

England's David Horsey, who managed to cut Olesen's lead to just one shot and with four holes to play, recorded a closing 65 to share second place on 17-under with China's Li Haotong also carding a 65.

Masters champion Danny Willett, who needed to finish fifth or higher to regain the Tour's Race to Dubai lead, recorded a 75 to slump to a share of 68th place.
