A woman who lives life at a full, unafraid gallop is sitting still in a hallway at Sentosa Golf Club. This isn’t Charley Hull’s style but there’s no stopping her anyway. If the Japanese – noted one study – speak at a rapid clip of 7.84 syllables per second, Hull’s got them beat by a distance. Her words feel like gunfire and they’re rarely coy and never cliche. This is instead an expressive, delightfully opinionated, independent spirit who once borrowed a lighter from a fan during a practice round.
Hull, here for the HSBC Women’s World Championship, has two LPGA Tour titles, was fourth-best in ball-striking in 2024, has 720,000 Instagram followers and an attitude that’s encapsulated in her Insta bio which reads: “Shy kids don’t get sweets”. As in, go for it, dammit.
