SINGAPORE – Malay-language daily Berita Harian (BH) and non-profit organisation AMP Singapore will be organising the BH-AMP Charity Golf event on July 22 at Orchid Country Club.
The event, which takes place a day after Racial Harmony Day, is held in celebration of Singapore’s 60 years of independence, or SG60, and aims to allow organisers to give back to the community.
This is the first time BH is organising a charity golf event. The target is to raise $300,000 from corporate and individual sponsors, with the total donations being split equally between AMP Singapore and BH.
AMP Singapore will channel its funds to its beneficiaries.
BH will direct its funds to the Singapore Children’s Society and also provide book prizes to students from higher-education institutions.
The event is co-chaired by BH editor Nazry Mokhtar and AMP Singapore’s executive director Mohksin Mohd Rashid. The patron is former president Halimah Yacob.
Nazry said: “This BH charity golf event hopes to strengthen BH’s image not only as a media platform representing the voice of the Malay/Muslim community, but also as an entity that contributes to the community and the country. The collaboration with AMP also signals BH’s readiness to forge stronger ties with partners to engage with the community.”
AMP Singapore chairman Ustaz Fathurrahman Dawoed said this event is not just a golf game, but an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of togetherness while contributing to the community.
He added: “Through this charity golf event, we hope to garner support and raise funds to help underprivileged families.
“We deeply appreciate this collaboration and hope to continue bringing positive change.”
As well, the event aims to provide assistance not only to the Malay/Muslim community, but also any Singaporean in need.
It is planned in collaboration with a group of veteran golfers led by Zainal Samat and Mohd Said Abdul Latif.
Zainal said he hopes to serve the community through his favourite sport and emphasised the importance of maintaining good relationships with donors and corporate sponsors to continue such initiatives.
