SINGAPORE – Sports fans will get to enjoy a full week of tennis action when the Singapore Tennis Open arrives in the Republic on Jan 25.

Before the main draw, which

features 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu and world No. 16 Anna Kalinskaya,

begins at the Kallang Tennis Hub (KTH) on Jan 27, fans will get to catch the qualifying rounds on Jan 25 and 26 for free.

Among those aiming to get a spot in the main draw of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 event are China’s Zhu Lin and the Philippines’ Alexandra Eala. The former played in the 2015 WTA Rising Stars Invitational, while Eala participated in the WTA Future Stars event in 2016 and 2017.

National tennis players Lynelle Lim, Audrey Tong and Eva Marie Desvignes have been handed wild cards for the competition and will feature in the singles qualifying matches.

Lim said: “This wild card allows me to play against some of the best players in the world, and I’m excited to gain invaluable experience that will carry forward to the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup and beyond.

“I will give my best effort, make the most of this opportunity, and proudly represent Singapore on this prestigious stage.”

Running alongside the Jan 27-Feb 2 tournament is the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup (STIC), a regional event that will see players from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia competing from Jan 28 to Feb 1.

Entry to the STIC matches, which are held at the KTH’s outdoor courts, is free.

There will also be a fan village located at the KTH’s event plaza, where there will be meet-and-greet sessions with WTA players and South-east Asian tennis icons Tamarine Tanasugarn and Yayuk Basuki.

Thailand’s Tamarine reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 15 in 2002, claiming 12 titles (four singles and eight doubles) on the WTA Tour.

Indonesian Yayuk’s career-high doubles ranking was No. 9, which she attained in 1998. She also won 15 WTA Tour events (six singles and nine doubles).

Tennis enthusiasts can test their reflexes, strokes and assess the accuracy of their shots through tennis-themed challenges at the fan village, as well as attend a free fitness class.

The Singapore Tennis Association, ActiveSG Tennis Academy and organisers of the Junior Team Tennis League will also be conducting clinics led by local coaches, while youth players will get to compete at the STO Red Ball Event Tournament 2025.
