SINGAPORE - Nico Rosberg has pledged to take more risks in this year's Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix as he hunts down championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

The German is second in the standings but 53 points behind his Mercedes team-mate Hamilton as the season moves to the Marina Bay Street Circuit this week.

The roles were reversed last year as Rosberg held a 22-point advantage over the Briton heading into Singapore but had to retire due to an electrical fault.

Hamilton went on to win the race. The 25 points allowed him to seize the championship lead and he eventually captured his second world title.

Said Rosberg on Thursday after a meet-the-fans session at Suntec City: "I'm very motivated to come here and win the race.

"Last year, I was in front in the championship and this year I'm behind so naturally it's different. I'm the one chasing now. When you're in front you can take a bit less risk but now I have to take more risks."
