SINGAPORE - The Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix was delayed on Sunday owing to a heavy downpour at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The race was scheduled to start at 8pm, with race control issuing a message an hour before flag-off announcing the delay of the starting procedure.
The 61-lap race eventually flagged off after the formation lap at 9.05pm.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) later said in a Facebook post on Sunday that train services would be "correspondingly extended by half an hour" owing to the delayed start.
"The last train will depart City Hall Station at 1.15am," said the LTA. "Do note there will be no extension to bus service timings."
Traffic police also announced that road closures along Coleman Street and North Bridge would be extended to Oct 3, 3am.
The race was eventually won by Red Bull's Sergio Perez.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc started on pole after a wet qualifying session on Saturday. He finished second. His teammate Carlos Sainz was third.
World champion Max Verstappen was seventh.
This is the second day of bad weather at the Singapore Grand Prix after heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon and evening saw teams competing in the qualifying session on a wet track.
